Minnesota State CX
Minnesota State CX Championship weekend. Titles are won. Egos are bruised. Hand-ups are taken. Not necessarily in that order.
I left the bike at home on Saturday and just hung out with the crowd on the stairs and shot some video. It’s a year-end party for everyone, as the video shows, and a nice way to end the season. The Men’s 1/2 race was pretty much over on the first lap, with Bjorn Selander taking the lead and never looking back. Women’s 1/2 race was won by Deidre Winfield, with Megan Barr and Jen Nowlin (who won the Women’s Singlespeed title an hour or so earlier in the day, no big deal) battling it out for the other two podium spots.
Sunday I brought the bike. I probably should have left it at home again. Was third row in the starting grid and dodged some crashes and traffic on the first lap, but was in a decent position. Legs were good, but not great. Didn’t have that top end I needed to stay in contact and I faded back each lap. Not a big surprise, as my “training” for the past 3 weeks or so was limited to racing on the weekend. It was still a blast. This Masters group is a pretty phenomenal bunch of guys. I’ve been riding with some of them for 20 years now, and they don’t get any slower. Onward to Hollywood’s Cross Fer Tots next week, then Fat Bike season.
